Jill Scott, the daughter of Joyce Scott in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was born on April 4th in 1972. Scott was raised as an only daughter by her maternal grandmother. Scott went to her school, the Philadelphia High School for Girls when she was a senior, and then she entered Temple University. She took secondary school classes her time at Temple University while working on two other jobs. She hoped to be the high school's English teacher. She was unable to fulfill this dream when, after studying for three years and becoming a teaching assistant, she left college. She began her career as a spoken-word performer, performing her pieces in live poetry readings. She then teamed up to Amir Quest Love Thompson from The Roots. They were able to collaborate as well as co-writing You Got Me. The singer was initially spotted as an artiste at a Roots Show. Afterward she secured collaborations with artists such as Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. Additionally, she was able to learn about the performing arts during the tour that Broadway's musical Rent. Also, she was the first signed by Hidden Beach Recordings.
